This qualification is aimed at staff working in licensed premises in Scotland. It satisfies the legal requirement under the Licensing Act (Scotland) 2005 for staff to receive a minimum of two hours training and is a transferable qualification for those working in the licensed retail trade.
Under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005, there is a mandatory requirement for all staff with job roles which include responsibility for selling or serving alcohol to undergo a minimum of two hours training which covers a 16 point syllabus laid down by the Scottish Government. Premises licence holders/premises managers have a legal obligation to ensure that their staff have received the necessary training and to keep records of completion. Putting staff through the SCPLS makes it possible not only to prove that training has taken place but, through the successful completion of a formal assessment, that staff members have understood the training which will help protect the business in the event of a future offence under the Act being committed by a staff member.
